Argentine tango Tango canyengue is a rhythmic style of tango that originated in the early s and is still popular today. It is one of the original roots styles of tango and contains all fundamental elements of traditional Tango from the River Plate region Uruguay and Argentina. In tango canyengue the dancers share one axis, dance in a closed embrace, and with the legs relaxed and slightly bent. Tango canyengue uses body dissociation for the leading, walking with firm ground contact, and a permanent combination of on- and off-beat rhythm. Its main characteristics are its musicality and playfulness. Its rhythm is described as “incisive, exciting, provocative”. The complex figures of this style became the basis for a theatrical performance style of Tango seen in the touring stage shows. For stage purposes, the embrace is often very open, and the complex footwork is augmented with gymnastic lifts, kicks, and drops. Nuevo tango A newer style sometimes called tango nuevo or “new tango” was popularized after by a younger generation of musicians and dancers. The embrace is often quite open and very elastic, permitting the leader to initiate a great variety of very complex figures.

Speed dating, icebreakers and PowerPoint Posted on by Elisabeth Horn A couple of months ago my son, who lives in Stockholm, Sweden, at the moment, sent me a card game upon request, Icebreaker. I had read about it, gotten curious and thought it might come in handy in the classroom at some point. The game is simple enough, each player takes a card and has to answer the question on that particular card. The questions are bilingual — Swedish and English — and the ultimate goal of the game is to get to know your co-players better.

But I could use the idea and the cards as inspiration. This is how it actually turned out IRL and the students loved every minute of it and spoke English as never before. Step 1 Every student gets a blank piece of paper and is asked to write down a number between 20 and I made life easy for myself and used a list from the most popular boy and girl names in the UK.

Ecological impact of the dingo after its arrival in Mainland Australia The thylacine is likely to have become near-extinct in mainland Australia about 2, years ago, and possibly earlier in New Guinea. Doubts exist over the impact of the dingo since the two species would not have been in direct competition with one another as the dingo hunts primarily during the day , whereas it is thought that the thylacine hunted mostly at night.

In addition, the thylacine had a more powerful build, which would have given it an advantage in one-on-one encounters. The thylacine was also much less versatile in diet than the omnivorous dingo. The adoption of the dingo as a hunting companion by the indigenous peoples would have put the thylacine under increased pressure.

Thursday, October 17, Speed-dating Speaking Activity! It’s been a busy one for me, and I’ve gotten a little behind in my blogging This one actually was inspired by my principal, who mentioned it in passing in one of our departmental meetings. I divided my class into groups of 2. To make it more fun, they had a simple costume to wear as well How old are you?

When is your birthday?. I used a timer, and the interviewers had a certain number of seconds to ask their questions. When the timer went off, the interviewers rotated to the next person and asked their questions again. After 5 rotations, I exchanged the cards the interviewers had with the questions on them in French for a card with the same questions written in English, and I asked them to try the last 5 interviews by trying to ask the questions with only the English prompt to look at.

Once again I circulated around the room listening to each group. Once the interviewers ended up with the partner they started with, they all switched places with the students who had the profiles and we did the whole thing again. I was reminded of how much they like to dress up and how even just a hat or a mask can suddenly render an activity exciting to them.

It was a big hit!

April 15, Hello Book Lovahs! I want to share with you a favorite book selection activity that the kids dig, is super silly and fun, creates a lot of excitement, and makes the books fly out of the library! I first blogged about this with you back in , added a genre twist last year , and now I’ve added a video and a few new tweaks! With my middle school kids this activity is guaranteed to make them grin, giggle, and cringe a little. Give yourself permission to really ham it up.

Because prepare yourselves, book lovahs, this is super cheezy! Then I collect a passel of Manga, comic, and graphic novels, and finally I cruise around my non-fiction and add popular like Guinness World Records, DK, Cooking, and sports books.
